Truce - Children of War by Sharee Anne Gorman (annienomad-cyberpoet)

Truce

(for all Children of War)

today,
I did not waken to
the sounds of war

morning tea
was not seasoned
by the mist of
crumbling mortar

 my gun,
left on a makeshift
and empty table

…I go in search of food…

 the theater is gone,
broken rows of empty seats
no longer watch the stage

 where am I?

signs are missing
familiar landmarks lie lost
among the scattered rubble

…I hear the crying man before I see him…

how long has he been crying?

by the looks of his dead family
must be about a week
he’ll be gone soon too,
you can tell

 shit!

there’s the pharmacy
blown to hell

…“little bit” needs medicine…
but I don’ know what kind
and I don’t know how much

God!

where’s the relief truck?
are they sending supplies?
 what day is it?
what year?

the streets are so quiet

silent, almost
as if, grief
naturally muffles

…I want to cry…but nothing comes…

no tears
no prayers
no help

I have to go back

 back and tell “little bit”,
still no food
“little bit”,
who’s growing weaker
“little bit”,
who likes to bug me at school
“little bit”,
who will die
during my afternoon nap

…today, I woke to find…

I had slept through my sister’s
final farewell

Syria is Dying - A Poem to World Leaders

SYRIA IS DYING

by Sharee Anne Gorman
(annienomad-cyberpoet)

Syria is dying.
Her cries falling on
prime-time deadened ears.
Her murder witnessed
with eyes made callous
by simulated death
and hearts grown shallow
by the manufactured drama
of groveling contestants
chasing dreams of
fleeting stardom.

Syria is dying.
Media and merchants all culpable,
 for their mindless pursuit
of advertising opportunities
while a country burns.

Her cities sacked.
Her families crushed.
Her ancient blood-lines
severed.

Syria is dying.
Buildings and bodies
reduced to rubble.
What is not initially broken
is left to starve.

Can someone please
tell me,
what does it benefit a ruler
if his throne is dipped in Gold
but his kingdom runs with blood?

I look at the world and I'm afraid there are no more Leaders of Conscience...just self-serving politicians, serving self-serving business men. Both camps addicted to winning. Neither side considering the consequences.

The Tide - Protest Song About Jobs, Civil Rights and...Justice For All!!

Much has been said in the media recently about, "The Arab Spring". I have been following events in North Africa and the Middle-East with much hope, concern and some horror at the price brave citizens have had to pay in order to address the unendurable realities of oppression.

I have watched in awe as wave after wave of citizens took to the streets, armed only with determination and courage in the face of great odds. Citizens fresh from prayers, and with much to lose. Understandably, I find myself muttering under my breath, "God, please hear them. Please keep them safe."

But SHOTS ring out anyway.

I pace my apartment trying to press the images from my eyes, but know that I can't because that would be to ignore the sacrifice I just witnessed. A sacrifice caught on film and offered to the world as witness to an endless struggle. The struggle to make "The Rich" understand that power, control and oppression - through military or economic means, has its consequences.

Citizens are rising up around the globe taking on issues such as corporate maleficence, market fraud, living wages, workers' rights, gender equality and the right to live in a free and open society.

And I think:

"We're so close. We're so close to all of us coming together...to all of us being on the same page...to lifting our voices as One as we realize that, "Hey, we're all in this together."

So, I wrote a song called..."The Tide".

It is a protest song. A song of peaceful revolution and empowerment. A song about the growing global movement of citizen awareness and an emerging solidarity. A song that I hope will, in some small way, help to grow "The Arab Spring" into a "Global Tide".
