Alone With It

When you’ve searched for a truth

that cannot be found

And life has forced your feet

back on the ground


Or you find out the hard way

that love isn’t a get

And your gambler’s heart

has lost its bet


These are the tears we finally shed

when we find ourselves

at last

…alone with it


Some reach for the sky

and snag the gold

Choosing to put their whole lives

on hold


Grabbing the prize

for which they were meant

Only to find later they’re

…alone with it


Some of us falter

ashamed and afraid

Fear has a price

the forgotten have paid


But there’s a truth in the lie

which we must not forget

Love means

you’ll never again be

…alone with it
